Certificate in Business

This program, satisfying the McAnulty College of Liberal Arts requirements for a minor, enables students to preserve the benefits of a liberal education while also acquiring business skills. The program consists of 6 prerequisite courses (19 credits) in the McAnulty College of Liberal Arts and 5 courses (15 credits) in the School of Business Administration. Specific requirements are as follows:

Liberal Arts
MATH 115 Calculus I (4 cr.)
ECON 201 Principles of Micro Econ (3 cr.)
ECON 202 Principles of Macro Econ (3 cr.)
MATH 301-302 Intro to Probability and Statistics (6 cr.)
Students may substitute QSMIS 281-284 Quantitative Analysis I & II (6 cr.)
COSC 150 Computer Programming or 160 Scientific Programming: C++ (3 cr.)

Business Administration

ACCTG 214-215 Financial/Managerial Accounting (6 cr.)

Business Emphasis - One of the following areas of concentration may be chosen. All courses listed are in the School of Business Administration. (3 credits each)

A. MGMT 361 Introduction to Management

MKTG 371 Introduction to Marketing

FINAN 331 Business Finance
 
B. QSMIS 183 Information Systems II

Two advanced information technology courses

(Student must meet prerequisites)
 
C. MGMT 361 Introduction to Management

Two advanced management courses; general or human resources

Two advanced marketing courses
 
E. FINAN 331 Business Finance

Two advanced finance courses
 
F. ACCTG 216 Accounting Practice and Systems

(Should be taken concurrently with 311)

Prerequisites: Substitute BLAW 251 Business Law for

Plus: Appropriate Modern Language for business at 306 level

The student must complete the business emphasis as it is outlined. There are no substitutions.

The student must achieve a minimum grade of C in each course.

Students may be allowed to take an additional 9 credits in Business Administration.

Because in most cases it will take three years to complete the certificate, students are strongly urged to register for the program by the end of their freshman year. To register, students should file a completed application form in the College Office. This, along with a copy of the most recent transcript, will be sent to the advisement office in the School of Business Administration. A School of Business advisor will assist the candidate in planning the program.
